Mushroom Picking Knife
This mushroom picking knife is handmade in the Finnish part of Lapland. The 5.5cm (2.2in) curved blade allows you to cut the stem without disturbing the mycelia (root system) so it will produce future crops, while the brush is for cleaning. The handle is made of hand-carved curly birch with a deer antler insert. The knife comes with a vegetable-tanned leather sheath that can be hung around the neck.
THIS ITEM IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO THOSE OVER 18 YEARS OF AGE.
EATING THE WRONG MUSHROOM CAN HAVE VERY SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. LEARN TO PICK WITH SOMEONE EXPERIENCED AND CHECK YOUR SHROOMS AGAINST TWO GOOD BOOKS. IF IN DOUBT, DON'T EAT IT.
We also stock what is, in the opinion of those that know about these things, the finest book written on the subject of mushroom picking - Mushrooms by Roger Phillips. And on the subject of foraging in general, the equally brilliant -Food For Free by Richard Mabey.
By the way, the Selby made a nice film about mushroom picking with the expert Connie Green. You can watch it here.
